Love letter from the Publisher

I have written, and re-written, this letter three times. The first one was an “Academy Award” style speech thanking all of the people that have contributed to the magazine over the past 10 years (thanks guys, couldn’t have done it without you). The second was a sappy “Thank you for liking us” letter, to all of the readers that have picked up ION Magazine and taken the time to let us know that they appreciate what we are doing (thank you all for supporting the magazine).

Their There

Their There are a super talented six-piece from White Rock, B.C., made up of friends Ross Jenkins (guitar, vocals), Adam de Souza (bass), Harley Small (piano, vocals), Jess Desrochers (drums), Rory Hislop (trumpet), and Adam Gough (saxophone). They’ve been in a band pretty much since they began puberty, so if it wasn’t obvious by listening to their debut album, Familiar Skin, these guys have got their sound, style and ridiculously fun live shows locked down.

Vancouver's Chinatown Night Market Revamped

If you've been to Vancouver during the summer, then you've probably checked out its Chinatown; and if there on a weekend evening, the Chinatown Night Market. Although it was once larger in size and took place on more streets, over the past few years the Night Market has become just a small strip of vendors on one block; well that's all about to change.

PARTYSKIRTS

There’s a new craze rustling through the Vancouver party scene. Take a glance around some of Vancouver’s watering holes and you’ll probably see some of the ladies wearing splashes of colour, puffball style silk, and showing a lot of leg. With these credentials, what’s not to love about PARTYSKIRTS?

Guy Friday | Cycling Caps

In July 2012, Ian Bowles took it upon himself to learn how to sew. With an interest in cycling caps, Bowles started producing his very own to wear while working as a bicycle messenger in Vancouver. As Bowles skills progressed, interest from others followed and he has since then sold his colourful and multi-print caps to fellow bike messengers, as well as has had his caps appear in art shows. With the slogan "Hey Fatty, Ride Your Bike!," Guy Friday also has branched into apparel with a tee and tote.

The Neighbourhood | Interview

As a band that started out from relative obscurity, The Neighbourhood has garnered a huge following. Mysteriously releasing their song 'Female Robbery' on the internet in early 2012, the band has since won the respect of reputable BBC Radio 1 DJ, Zane Lowe, and embarked on a world-wide tour. For a band that started out a little more than a year ago, that's quite a respectable feat. With a genre defying sound, this band is sure to become more and more familiar. I spoke to lead singer, Jesse Rutherford, right before they played the Biltmore in Vancouver, BC.
