Album Review | Shotgun Jimmie - Field of Trampolines

Some will call Shotgun Jimmie a one-trick pony, but is that really true if the one trick is just really freaking good? Shotgun Jimmie doesn't really break any new ground here on the Joel Plaskett-produced Field of Trampolines. If you come in expecting honest, sing-along-able, relatable indie rock, well, you won't be disappointed.

That said, Joel Plaskett's hand is evident here, in the harmonies of "Georgia OK" and the the insanely catchy hook of "Join The Band", the album's strongest song. Shotgun Jimmie's appeal has always been rooted in the clever and universal lyrics he writes: "I'm sending back this gin and tonic, because I'm an old-fashioned guy". Lines like these appear on Field of Trampolines in spades, underscoring the small beauties in life. Maybe that's Shotgun Jimmie's one trick; an innate ability to pinpoint the little things that make travel, music, Scrabble, and getting drunk with friends wonderful. And yeah. It's a hell of a good trick.
