Conway | "Sudden Dawn"

This new track by Conway stood out this week, mostly because it was by the first contemporary female solo artist, mostly electronic, who didn't mention Grimes as an influence in her press release in what feels like three years. What's perhaps more impressive than that, is the Los Angeles through St. Louis artist, managed to get signed to Columbia Records and then wriggle free of the contract, while getting her masters back. Which is a bit "Inside Baseball", but if you know even a little bit about how these things work, you know that it's a real change from how things were done for decades, especially at major labels.

The new single, "Sudden Dawn", in advance of the Big Talk EP, has the most infectious "HEY!" hook since the Four Non Blondes, and is a precise number that has the booming rhythm and tight production to make any indie nightclub snap heads, but features an inspiration of much more substance that your regular, vapid pop song.
