The Gaze | Juxtapoz x Superflat

After a stint at the Pivot Art & Culture in Seattle this past August, the Juxtapoz x Superflat show is now taking over the fifth-largest art gallery in Canada: the Vancouver Art Gallery. The exhibition showcases the works of more than 30 artists from all around the world and has been described as a manifesto celebrating new creative practices. Juxtapoz x Superflat offers viewers a privileged insight into contemporary art and its place in modern culture.

The exhibition, curated by Japanese artist Takashi Murakami and Evan Pricco, Editor-in-Chief of the renowned Juxtapoz Art & Culture Magazine, shows a strong emphasis on artists whose practices have been shaped by various sub-cultures alongside challenging traditional categories of art and production. Expect a refreshing take on contemporary art influenced by skateboarding, surf, graffiti, street art, comics, design, illustration, painting, and digital and traditional arts.

On display from November 5th, 2016 to February 5th, 2017, Juxtapoz x Superflat's eccentric installations make for a mind-blowing show free from traditional concepts of high and low art.

Includes work by: Nina Chanel Abney, Chiho Aoshima, Urs Fischer, GATS, Kim Jung Gi, Kazunori Hamana, Trenton Doyle Hancock, John Hathway, Todd James, James Jean, Friedrich Kunath, Austin Lee, MADSAKI, Geoff McFetridge, Christian Rex van Minnen, Rebecca Morgan, Takashi Murakami, Kazumi Nakamura, Elisabeth Higgins OConnor, Otani Workshop, Paco Pomet, Parra, Erin M.
