I M U R Debuts New Song

Vancouver has become quite the hotbed for independent hip hop and R&B over the last couple years. Artists such as Tonyé and Tee Krispil have been turning heads with their sophisticated take on the genre, and rising up to join their ranks is local trio I M U R.  The band released their debut album, Little Death, last year and followed that up with a string of successful tour dates, and today we are treated to the premiere of the first single off their upcoming EP THIRTY33,  “Miss You Hate You”. The track deals with lead vocalists Jenny Lea’s struggle with substance abuse and it is a powerhouse of a track. Not only a personal and intimate account of her addiction but one that is wrapped in a chilly sheen of some of the smoothest production since Erykah Badhu’s Baduizm. Lea’s cadence is even reminiscent of the 90s R&B icon. With “Miss You Hate You” I M U R lay their feelings bare and this kind of honesty and vulnerability make for a strong and empowering statement. Let’s hope for us that I M U R’s hearts don’t stray too far from their sleeves moving forward.
