ION video: Jim Steinman - "Rock 'n Roll Dreams Come Through"

Sometimes at ION we like to revisit the past, and apologies for what you're about to experience. If you don't know Jim Steinman, he's pretty much the man who was the engine behind "Wagner Rock"; that style of music that's the aural equivalent of airbrushing a sexy valkyrie on the side of your boogie van. You can hear him on every Meat Loaf album, in "Total Eclipse of the Heart", and as a post-modern influence on ION favourites The Protomen. The alleged story is that Meat Loaf got tired of Steinman, so Steinman employed Canadian "Total Eclipse" backup singer Rory Dodd to replace him as his vehicle for his specific brand of overly emotional classic rock.

During this period, Steinman had to keep up appearances, and this video (which was taken down by the host briefly, but thankfully for schadenfreude, has been re-uploaded) is an example of how he spent his time; lip synching a song that he wasn't actually singing on, with no backing band, distracting the shocked and/or bored audience with some cutoff-clad dancers who can only be described as "a little much" even at the time. Shoot us an email with your thoughts if you can make it the entire way through the clip. ION is not responsible for any feelings of nausea and/or douche chills from the following clip, and the aesthetics of the clip do not necessarily reflect those of this publication.
