M83 Shares Animal Collective/Deakin Remix of "Go!"

Anthony Gonzalez is currently touring the world in support of the new M83 release Junk but the busy producer and musician had some time today to share the awesomely jittery remix of his song “GO!” by Animal Collective’s Deakin.

The track, which features a celestial performance from his fellow Parisian Mai Lan, starts similarly to the original. All stuttering analog synths and a “Hurdy Gurdy” esque take on Lan’s vocals but eschews the song’s big build by tumbling everything over top a gently consistent kick drum and feather light cymbals. It then, slowly, opens up, really allowing the listener to linger in the spaces it leaves between every note. Lan drones, “Gotta run, gotta run, gotta run and make it on time” in a way that is so unhurried that it adds a lightheartedness to the proceedings.

As fans of both M83 and Animal Collective will appreciate, Deakin has clearly left his mark on the song creating a pleasing, pulsing, somewhat subdued party. It’s the type of remix that greatly benefits from not steadily broadening as it goes but by quietly waning as it leisurely strolls towards a conclusion, not quite ending but fading out as it drifts off into the cosmos.
