The Strokes Premiere "Threat of Joy" Video

One of the Strokes' greatest gifts is that they can make the corniest things they do look like something that is happening to them instead of them making these things happen. Case in point is the newly released video for the track “Threat Of Joy” off of their Future Present Past EP. The video, looking like a lost Gregg Araki film, involves the hunt for some stolen footage that was another Strokes video for the track “Oblivious”. We watch as some Men In Black try to secure this missing footage for their pig-faced employers.  There’s some intrigue; who is this mystery thief? A bit of social commentary; the pig-faced villains are a non-veiled proxy for Wall Street bankers. Plus there’s a ton of some girl who either looks like or is Lana Del Rey. All the while the band performs the song looking relatively aloof to the production going on around them, even when they need to be directly involved in the action. It’s a fun, brightly shot and fluffy clip. Three adjectives not necessarily anyone would associate with The Strokes but as we have learned off the top that is something this particular band doesn’t need to worry about.
