Video of the Day | Little Destroyer "Rattlesnakes"

Vancouver’s Little Destroyer are a singular entity. A young band with a firm grasp on exactly who they are, a pop band with bite that has style AND substance. In advance of their upcoming EP, Strange Fruit, they’ve released the video for the single “Rattlesnakes” and it showcases a band that has something to say and know perfectly how to say it.

Directed by Connor McGuire the clip is a tracking shot that follows the band throughout an empty nightclub. Seeing a once fun filled and electric environment stripped bare, McGuire and the band perfectly capture the disillusionment of waking up at the party and realizing the party has moved on without you. The use of the tracking shot is a deft touch. Literally putting the viewer into a spiral traipsing room to room in search of an exit that seems just out of reach. While definitely somber there is a poignancy and beauty on display here that transcends any bleakness and leaves us with a bit of hope that we will find a way to move on. It’s an apt metaphor for the state of the world right now and very telling that Little Destroyer can take something very personal and make it so relatable. It’s a talent few bands have and it is wonderful to see on display here. How’d we get so fortunate indeed.
