War Baby premiere "Coma Kid" video

Vomit, masturbation, diarrhea and clowns. Clearly the boys in Vancouver’s War Baby know how to get your attention. The fiery three-piece just released Coma Kid, a surprise free EP, last week and with it the disturbing, somewhat grotesque but all around extremely captivating new video for the title track.

Recorded last year with producer Jesse Gander at Raincity Recorders, the blistering “Coma Kid” is quintessential War Baby. One of the fiercest live bands in the country, the trio have also been stepping it up exponentially in their visual department. The clip, directed by bass player Brock Allen, who also put together the amazing interactive game portion of their last album Death Sweats, features the titular Coma Kid in front of a live studio audience, wrestling through his own existence by sedating himself with food, booze and pornography while backstage a cowboy hat-wearing mystery man is pulling the strings for the audience’s entertainment.

It’s clear a ton of love went into the creation of this clip and it works as a perfect accompaniment to the song. Parts Monty Python, David Lynch and Metalocalypse, “Coma Kid” is an invasion on your eyes and ears, a social commentary on today’s troubling times and an achievement, both visually and musically, that leaves me rabidly awaiting what War Baby does next.
