Stay Cool

Just as you start worrying about getting old and your hey day being behind you, in comes this self-published beauty of a photography book, by LA-based photographer RJ Shaughnessy, documenting and capturing exactly what ‘youth’ means. Youth is some carefree, sun-drenched and sickeningly beautiful people frolicking around LA., kissing on top of traffic lights, shredding through Beverly Hills and catching piggy back rides from cops. We love this book.

Hey Girl, I want you to colour me good

Ladies (and gents with man crushes), colouring books are no longer for children anymore. Mel Elliott of I Love Mel has created the Colour Me Good: Ryan Gosling colouring book. Yes, you read that right. Grab your crayons and start caressing shading in the God-like tone of Mr. Gosling as he appears dapper, sworthy, and even shirtless across 15 pages of fun.

Patrick Cummins | Full Frontal T.O.

For over 30 years photographer Patrick Cummins has been wandering the streets of his home town Toronto. Through his roaming, he has told the story of an evolving city, all with the power of his camera lens. In his book, Full Frontal T.O., Cummins has collated over a thousand mug shots of Toronto’s messy urbanism, giving a non-touristic and honest view of the city’s evolution.

The Epic & The Beasts | slo-mo skateboading video

The Epic & The Beasts is one of the coolest skateboarding videos we have seen to date. Shot in slow motion, this incredibly well done short film takes the regular skate video to a whole new artistic level. Directed and edited by Sebastian Linda, the video features skateboarders Tom Kleinschmidt, Richard Naumertat, Erik Grob, Octavio Trindade, David Raderecht, as well the filmmaker, Sebastian Linda.

Our Easy-Bake Nationalism

The summer is long around here, but at least it starts with a bang on July 1, when Ottawa embraces its role as the theoretical centre of all that is Canadiana, when the politicians trot up to the Hill again in the heat, sing the national anthem and watch a few bands most of us have never heard of play for the throng of red and white clapping hands and smiling, sweat-soaked faces. It usually rains sometime during the afternoon, just long enough to push the midday shift of drinkers from the patios and make room for the evening teams.
