Queer Arts Festival | TransgressionNow

Celebrating the unique creative expressions of visual and performing artists who identify as part of the queer communities, the Queer Arts Festival in Vancouver is an annual artist-run showcase of queer arts, culture and history.

This year QAF presents TransgressionNow, a visual art exhibition curated by Paul Wong and Glenn Alteen. TransgressionNow looks at where queer artists still transgress social, gender and political boundaries, and what that looks like now in the media age. What was once seen as disobedient or even sinful is now commonplace—when any manner of visual and digital material is on everyone's screen in seconds. A departure from other shows, TransgressionNow is predominantly photo-based and video, featuring 14 works that are conceptual, raw and where the body seems to be a popular theme in the show.

Along with the curated visual arts show, the Queer Arts Festival features a community art show and three dynamic weeks of cutting-edge performances and workshops from all artistic disciplines, including music, dance, theatre, literary and media arts. A full calendar of events listing can be found here.

TransgressionNow premiere's tonight at the Queer Arts Festival Opening Night Gala Art Party! at the Roundhouse Exhibition Hall, 181 Roundhouse Mews, Vancouver. TransgressionNow runs from July 24–August 9.
