Strike A Chord: A Benefit for Music Heals

This Thursday celebrate the power of music at Strike A Chord, a benefit event for Music Heals Foundation, that promises a memorable evening of entertainment and special guests, including Chin Injeti and the Lifetimes, Coastal Sound Youth Choir featuring Dan Mangan, Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer, Andrew C. Kilgour, Scott Jackson, Tonye Aganaba, Kytami, and hosted by Prevail.

The music industry and community will gather together for a night of fundraising for Music Heals, which formed to help raise awareness of the healing powers of music and to help fundraise for music therapy and related services across Canada. Music therapy is the skillful use of music as a therapeutic tool to restore, maintain, and improve mental, physical, and emotional health, and did you know that music therapy does not receive any government funding? With generous support from individuals, foundation and corporate donors, Music Heals is able to provide support for programs that employ music therapists in hospitals, hospices and in private homes across the country. They have donated $250,000 to music therapy programs in just their first two years in operation.

Proceeds from last year’s Strike A Chord funded increased music therapy at Delta Hospice, Mountainside Secondary (at-risk youth), Luther Court (assisted living complex care), The Gardens at Qualicum Beach (seniors), The Dr Peter Centre, VGH Burn Unit and Comox Valley Hospice.

Music Heals raises money and awareness for music therapy programs serving children, seniors, palliative care, burn units, autism, bereavement, dementia, rehabilitation, and more. Last year, Strike A Chord raised $50,000 to support local music therapy programs and this year they aim to double it.

If you would to attend Strike a Chord, tickets can be purchased here. (A $100 charitable tax receipt will be issued for each ticket purchased.) If you would like to learn more about Music Heals, please visit musicheals.ca
