Unlocking The Truth

Imagine you're in the sixth grade and your goal is to become one of the world's best heavy metal bands. Well, that is exactly what a couple of eleven and twelve-year-old kids from Flatbush, Brooklyn want to achieve. Malcolm Brickhouse (electric guitar) and Jarad Dawkins (drums—which by the way, mastered the instrument by the age of two) formed their first band, Tears of Blood in 2007. Now calling themselves Unlocking The Truth, and adding a third band mate, Alec Atkins (bassist), the heavy metal/hard rock trio are impressing not only New York, but the world with their talent.

Inspired by Chelsea Grin, Motionless in White, Escape the Fate, SlipKnot, Metallica, Disturbed and other metal influences, the young musicians have already written two albums, Madness and Paranoid, and are working on their third and fourth albums, Physical Therapy and their self-titled album, Unlocking the Truth, due this summer.

Not only do these sixth-grade metalheads want to be known for their own genre, but they also want to inspire people and encourage their fans to just be themselves and not be intimidated by what people say. As Jarad states, "just be yourself and do what you do best."

You can watch Malcolm and Jarad in The Avant/Garde Diaries series below and keep up with Unlocking The Truth on Twitter.
