Osheaga Artist World

Unless you’re staff or an artist performing at the festival, not many people get into Osheaga’s coveted Artist World area. It’s a small, private section of Parc Jean Drapeau where artists can come and eat, relax, or get dolled up before going on stage.

Jesse R. Berlin Premieres "How Did You Sleep Lady Kite"

Jesse R. Berlin is either a dying archetype or, more hopefully, a sign of music's dark ages ending. He (GET THIS) actually has more to say than just how many different ways he's not getting paid from streaming services. SHOCKER! Although his latest interviews have been the peak of whimsy and artful laughter, he has taken a (somewhat) more serious tone in describing his new single to us at ION:

Lost Duke Ellington/Krautrock Producer Collaboration

Hidden away silent amongst the cobwebs in the estate of the late Conny Plank, sat an unreleased recording waiting to be discovered. Amalgamated together in one session were the geniuses of Plank—a krautrock producer—and jazz legend Duke Ellington. There had been whisperings of the union between the two circulating since 1970, left unfounded until now.

Ladyfrnd Premieres "Strange Days" Then Breaks Up

When you're as prolific as Peter Ricq, globetrotting with Humans, and your side project, Gang Signs, sometimes something has to give, and in this case, it's his side-SIDE project, Ladyfrnd, who, with Friday's release of the appropriately named "Farewell EP" have decided to pull the pin. Mixed by Vancouver's plucky producer du jour, Jason Corbett, the Farewell EP doesn't do much to twist the overall sound of the act before it exeunts, but it does build upon an enjoyable oeuvre before the final bow.

Darby's Girls

Darby’s Girls: The Iconic Women in Punk Who Befriended and Followed Darby Crash

Darby Crash planned his short life and even—especially—his death to be the stuff of punk legend. Maybe the saddest fact surrounding his death wasn’t that it was by suicide, or that he was only 22. Maybe it’s that the goal he set for himself in dying an unforgettable death turned out to be a futile attempt. It didn’t make him the legend he set out to be: destiny was nasty to Darby Crash that way.

LYRIC Musical Showerhead

Gone are the days of annoying my next door neighbours with my music when I have it on full volume when wanting to listen to tunes whilst in the shower. Thanks to American Standard's LYRIC Musical Showerhead, I can stream my music right in the shower while keeping the other rooms in my apartment silent. With Bluetooth capability and seven hours of play time, LYRIC—which comes with a showerhead that includes spray, massage, and combo functions—is a perfect entertainment system for singing along to songs in the shower—or just rocking out to while making shampoo mohawks.

Tim Clapp | Clapp Music

Tim Clapp is relaxed today, even though the local music impresario and label owner, of Kingfisher Bluez records, is in the middle of moving. Looking at the thousands of albums that line the wall of his East Vancouver apartment, one can imagine the act of packing all of these up would be enough to make even a shy, bald Buddhist irritable. On the contrary, however, as ION writer Adam Fink discovers.

Psymon Spine | Shocked [Exclusive Premiere]

After finding some early success from remixing Is Tropical's "Dancing Anymore" Psymon Spine's Peter Spears and Noah Prebish have gone on to write and record an EP due out mid-May on Axis Mundi. "Shocked" is a snippet of whimsy that amalgamates the earthy electronic tones a fan of Tobacco might enjoy, with the acoustic guitar bed that creates an analog foundation.
