Coldwater

Inspired by true events, Coldwater tackles the troubling world of juvenile rehabilitation. This drama/thriller follows Brad Lunders, a troubled teen sent to a juve reform facility run by a retired war colonel and a team of alpha males. Lunders, who was forcefully abducted from his home in the middle of the night by his mother's consent is sent to a harsh wilderness reform compound. With no contact from the outside world, teens are left with the colonel in charge who prides himself on breaking an inmate's spirt in order to correct delinquent behaviour. Portraying a very harsh bootcamp, the teens sent to this Hell are forced to run miles every day (with barking leaders on ATV's at their heels), are sprayed with cold water from fire hoses, beaten, and strung up by their wrists and left overnight—all part of the colonel's reform structure to turn these boys into men. As we learn of the tragic events that led to Brad’s arrival, unforeseen circumstances threaten to tear the already eroding reform facility apart, forcing Brad to confront not only his fellow inmates and the personnel in charge, but finally his own sense of what is right and what is wrong.

Coldwater opens today at Carlton Cinema and Kingsway Theatre in Toronto
