Avey Tare | Enter The Slasher House [ALBUM REVIEW]

Experimenting with sound is a tricky business. Sometimes it leads to brilliant new means of expression, and sometimes it’s a distraction from the music. Avey Tare’s Enter The Slasher House falls into the second category. The album sounds like Jane’s Addiction, if they were far away and under water; overly complex and distracting to the point where it’s hard to discern one song from the next. My understanding is that the songs were written on acoustic guitar and then had all these sounds added. I’d be interested to hear that, because underneath all this sound I could almost hear something catchy and familiar trying desperately to get its head above water. Can’t hear the music through the sounds; there should be a tour later this year, bring drugs.

Enter the Slasher House is now available via iTunes and Domino Records. You can also stream the album for a limited time here.
