RocketNumberNine | MeYouWeYou [REVIEW]

Response to RocketNumberNine’s debut album was pretty darn good. Four Tet signed them to his Text label without hesitation, and the Godfather of all that is right with music, Thom Yorke, invited them on tour with him. When I played their most recent album to a group of friends, many continued to chatter. One glanced towards me with a puzzled look on his face. “Techno?!” Tech….no. Not exactly. Yes, this, the second offering from London brothers Ben and Tom Page does have a hardcore bass and definitely is electronic. But don’t make the mistake of dismissing this duo as producing soulless, glow-stick wearing, techno beats. This largely improvised record is laden with tribal beats, African influence and jazz. That’s not to mention the live drums, percussion and raw electronics. Yep, pretty darn good.
