The Gaze | The New Gallery

The Gaze is a new short ION weekly feature that fosters Canada's cultural wealth by presenting art galleries and new exhibitions from Ocean to Ocean.

The New Gallery is a long-time established artist-run center for contemporary art located in Calgary, Alberta. A compelling alternative to the city's mainstream culture, TNG offers opportunities and venues for artists at all stages of their careers, so long as they engage in a social and political, creative approach to their art. For the past 40 years, the center has provided artists and designers with a unique way of sharing, building and understanding their practice with one another.

Organizing a broad range of educational art activities, including exhibitions, residencies, lectures and community collaborations, The New Gallery facilitates the dialogue between contemporary art and the public. This alternative space and non-profit organization sees life through two venues: the Main Space (in Calgary's Chinatown neighborhood) and the +15 Window (located at the Arts Commons building).

The current exhibition, "I Never Recognized Her Except in Fragments", is brought to you by Hannah Doucet and running until August 6, 2016.
