During the holiday season of 1990 the world was treated to and immediately fell for an adorable and strong willed 8-year-old boy from Shermer, Illinois, named Kevin McCallister. We all know that McCallister was played by the wonderful Macaulay Culkin, who has since transitioned from being a well regarded child actor to his role now, as it looks to us from afar, as a man of leisure who only does things that are fun and to help out his pals. This is the guy who appeared in a Sonic Youth video, toured the world with his friends, playing sold-out theatres as a pizza-loving, satirical rock band and who recently went back to his role as a grown up Kevin McCallister, once again left home alone, for a Google commercial. While we wait patiently for him to respond to our countless requests for tips on how to live our best lives, this morning we found out that he is now in the process of changing his middle name from “Carson” to “Macaulay Culkin”. This is just the cherry on top of our continued love for the former actor, who quit the business at 14 just because he felt like it and who continues to live out loud and in the best possible ways. As we all move from 2018 into 2019, maybe we can take a page out of the Macaulay “Macaulay Culkin" Culkin playbook and do the things we love, help out our friends the best we can and try our hardest to be the most honest and fun versions of ourselves. On second thought, maybe Culkin doesn't need to respond to our repeated requests for tips, it seems like he’s been quietly showing us the right way live our lives this whole time.
