Pains of Being Pure at Heart Release New Video for "So True"

Brooklyn’s The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart have just released their stellar new album, The Echo Of Pleasure, and today have dropped the video for the new single, “So True.” The band has taken many forms since they put out their debut record in 2009 and songwriter/spearhead Kip Berman has seen his life completely change since that time as well. “A band I started when I was younger that has mirrored my own life in its many transformations,” Berman says. “I sometimes feel like I’m living with a familiar stranger, the older songs speak to a life that is markedly different from how I live now."  The clip for “So True” reflects this exact thinking. Directed by Nicola Saint-Marc, the video shows a woman living with her younger self and trying to reconcile the way the ideals and lifestyle she had lived to the reality of the present that she needs to inhabit. She watches her younger self with a sense of caution, not wanting to get wrapped up in her own former freedom as if it would sacrifice the life she is living now. There is a sense of melancholy that hangs over the whole proceeding and we are left with some ambiguity about whether or not she would embrace her past or prefer to forget it. It’s a lovely visual metaphor for an equally lovely song and one that should get everyone excited for what an older and more experienced Kip Berman will produce as his life experiences grow.

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart perform live this Friday, September 22nd at the Biltmore Cabaret (2755 Prince Edward Street) in Vancouver.
