Public Records | Summer '13 Music Video Grants

Public Records has just launched their first grant program, the "Summer '13 Music Video Fund, supported by TELUS Optik Local." Grants of up to $5000 will be available to emerging artists—either musicians or filmmakers—in BC and Alberta to support the creation of independent music videos.

Public Records is founded by Dan Costello and Tony Yacowar, two musicians from Victoria, BC. Frustrated with the music industry, they wanted to come up with unconventional ways to support emerging talent. They envisioned a future where artists were in control of their own business and were able to make a living from their talent. And so, Public Records was born.

The grant program will primarily benefit emerging artists which the organization defines as musicians who are not signed to a major record label, living or originating from the following communities in British Columbia: Vancouver, Victoria, Nanaimo, Penticton, Prince George, Kelowna, Vernon, and Kamloops; and in Alberta: Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer , Lethbridge, Medicine Hat, Fort McMurrary, and Grand Prairie. Filmmakers involved in the grant application and music video production must also live or originate from these communities.

Grant applications open on May 31st and close on June 14th. The winners will be announced on June 21st. To get started, create your Artist Profile through Public Records here. Good luck!
