I love art. But you will most likely find me rushing through a museum, skipping anything that doesn't catch my eye. I can appreciate the talent and history behind artwork, but I can't get into it if it doesn't fit my taste. I'm stubbornly picky, definitely an Aquarius thing.

Most of my life I've been attracted to street art or contemporary art. I'm not quite a historian nor specialist in the field, music is really my forte. Never the less, I'm super picky about art because it is my escape. Music is where I go to express and art is were I go to just feel. I used to draw and paint back in the day, nothing serious, but I was always drawn to art to help explain what I felt visually. And when I find that specific art piece that I connect to and LOVE, I'm inspired forever.

In December of 2012, I experienced my first SCOPE show at Art Basel in Miami. I was overwhelmed by how many pieces spoke to me. It was probably the first time I had been floored by an ENTIRE show; feeling like each artist understood me. I made a recap of my experience on my blog just to show everyone how good it was. Little did I know that a few months later I would be asked to DJ SCOPE's 'The One Fifty' Afterparty for SCOPE's New York Show plus given full access to the show as soon as it opened. The power of the universe, eh? Here is a video recap taken by the video App Montaj of my experience at the art show as well as the afterparty at Hotel Americano in NYC.

Now for my recap:

I arrived early on March 6th, 2013 to the SCOPE Art Show on 33rd St. right before they were open to the public. My good friend, Monica LoCascio (also Executive Producer of the show) greeted me at the entrance and rushed me inside. There was such a great feeling of anticipation—like being behind the scenes right before the curtain is about to drop while watching some of the artists put final touches on their pieces. I met up with Daria Shaprio (VP + the cool as a cucumber boss lady) who got me my VIP and Press credentials.

From then on everyone thought I was a journalist and I fell into the role fondly wearing my borrowed Canon 7D camera (thanks Matt!).

The entrance into the art space alone was mind altering. You didn't know if you were walking into a carnival or a gallery. It was awesome.

Once inside, it was like being a kid in a candy store. You didn't know which direction to run to first and you wanted to grab it all. I ran around and shot everything that grabbed my attention. Here are a few of my favourites ...

And just like my visit to SCOPE Art Basel, there was the same stash of diamonds in the main lobby that I love...

After the show, all the people involved plus 150 special guests were invited to Hotel Americano to eat hors d'oeuvres and listen to me DJ and perform. I had such a blast, the crowd really appreciated the music and even the chefs were getting down to the tunes. All in all, a great experience.

Please check out more about SCOPE at scope-art.com, especially to see when and where the next show is. You can also find out info about all the artists showcased on the SCOPE Art App. And many thanks to ION for letting me rant and rave about all the things that I loved at SCOPE New York.
