TLGLTP | Top Less Gay Love Tekno Party

I’ll be honest: I listened to this album on my way to eat a burrito, while on my way to put stuff in a storage unit … by myself. I don’t think this is the most appropriate context to listen to it. The name of the outfit says a lot about the music. It’s probably perfect if you’re hanging out with topless women, gay dudes, and X dealers. That said, I pray by my bedside every night that I might spend my life constantly in the midst of such a menagerie. I’ll continue to be honest and also let you know that the album starts off with an anthem for the band aptly named “Top Less Gay Love Tekno Party” and I love anthems. I think every band—hell, every person—should have their own anthem, so I was pretty into their style from the start. And not only is it fun, but the arrangements and production are actually quite smart; yearning, swirling vocals bouncing around early 2000s synth sounds and modern deep bass tones. I bet it’s super fun live. I’d probably pay upwards of $15 to check it out the first time and I bet I’d get to make out with someone during the set too. I think the lyrics were a little bit lost on me, or maybe they seemed a little trite a lot of the time, but who cares; lyrics are for dorks. Take your tops off, get gay, and dance to techno.
